As reported by NBC DFW: “The Texas House has approved offering up to 10 hours of psychological counseling for members of grand juries who are exposed to graphic or upsetting testimony, images and other materials as part of cases they are empaneled to hear.”
Texas law already allows members of petit (trial) juries to obtain counseling like this. In our system of self government, grand juries serve an important function and grand jurors are sometimes forced to confront evidence – including photographs or videos – that contain depictions of horrific crimes. We think it makes sense to provide them with this type of counseling.
